Comments: This is another clever re-working of the tarot concept & is particularly convincing in the Major Arkanas, which are based (loosely, at times) on the familiar Rider-Waite. Some of the other major arkanas of interest: The Hanged Man is the Hung-up Man, a runner caught off base. The Fool is a rookie, the Emperor is the owner, the Heirophant is the Commissioner, the Lovers are fans, the Chariot is a bullpen car, Strength is the pinch-hitter, the Hermit is the money player, the Wheel of Fortune is the scorecard, Justice is (what else?) the umpire, Temperance is the utility player, the Devil is the base stealer (with the 2nd baseman & shortstop chained to the base itself), the Tower is a falling outfielder, hit by lightening while leaping for a high pop fly (don't they stop games in bad weather?), the Star is (naturally) the star player, the Moon is the bleacher bum, the Sun is the natural, the World is the steady veteran, surrounded in this case by his wife & faithful dog.
I've probably given away the secrets of this deck, but it's just too darn good. The booklet is just as good. Here are the notes for the Devil (aka the base stealer): "Domination of the material aspects of the game. Raw physicality overwhelms sensible base running. Extraordinary efforts. Reversed: Overconfidence. A tendency toward indecisiveness. Being caught out (see also The Hung-Up Man)."
Suits are Bats - Wands, Gloves - Cups, Balls - Swords, and, Caps - Pentacles.
Court cards are: Manager, Coach, Pitcher & Umpire.
The artists are to be commended for showing not only Black & Hispanic players, but also their wives & girlfriends. Like they said in the movie, baseball is more than nine guys & a diamond.
All in all, a most enjoyable deck.
