Arastu Prabhakar

The author, Gopal Das Neeraj, is a famed Hindi poet, and as of 2005, is still very much alive. The translator, Dr. Arastu Prabhakar, having fallen into a state of utter despair & dejection for not having been selected for the Indian Administrative Service, found a new life as a translator & commentator on Vedic astrology books. There are those who are raised as astrologers & never entertain doubt, then there are those who come to the study by other means. It would seem we have both here.

	JYOTISH DOHAWALI - Gopal Das Neeraj, translated by Arastu Prabhakar, $8.00 Contents: There is a listing of 136 of the 141 Hindi slokas in this book, but the list itself is in Hindi, which is of no help to me. Comment: Originally rhyming couplets (easy to remember), the English translation is, regrettably, mere words. The original Hindi couplets are included and for fans of the author, this is not to be missed. Nishkaam Peeth Prakashan, 115 pages.

	SHUKA NADI JYOTISH, part 1 - Gopal Das Neeraj, translated by Arastu Prabhakar, $7.00 Contents: Planets in, and affecting, houses 1 - 6; Dhanyogas. Comment: Inspired by Sanskrit, shaped into Hindi couplets, with English translation & commentary. Includes 101 Hindi slokas. Nishkaam Peeth Prakashan, 87 pages.

	SHUKA NADI JYOTISH, part 2 - Gopal Das Neeraj, translated by Arastu Prabhakar, $7.00 Contents: Preface; Planets in, and affecting, houses 7 - 12, interspersed with Dhan Yogas. Comment: In the preface, Mr. Prabhakar thanks Ms. Rajeshwari Shanker (the publisher) for the suggestion of converting Sanskrit slokas to Hindi couplets & then translating them. This confuses me. I had presumed Mr. Neeraj to have written in Hindi. Nishkaam Peeth Prakashan, 84 pages.
