Back of card: Off-color purple with labyrinth in gold. Not exactly symmetric, but you'll never notice, so you can invert the cards. The labyrinth, by the way, is similar to the one on the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France. Not mentioned in the book so far as I can tell.

The Deck & Book set includes a 256 page, 6 x 9 inch/15.4 x 23 cm book. Each card is illustrated (b&w) & described. For each card, a story relating to Arthur is given.

The deck by itself includes a 72 page booklet.

Comments: Another in a series of mythic Britain tarot decks. In this deck, the suits are Spears, Swords, Cups & Shields, which amounts to a deck drunken militants, since spears & swords are weapons, shields are defense & there's nothing like booze to get your blood boiling. Anyway.

Court cards are King, Queen, Knight & Page. The book is lavishly illustrated with many illustrations in addition to the cards themselves. The author knows the Arthurian legend, knows Gaelic & writes with conviction, we found the book fascinating.

With the deck & book set, there used to be a reading "cloth" (a large folded sheet of paper showing the Celtic cross layout), but this has been discontinued. A check of two sets found it missing. Normally in these cases, I phone the publisher & ask directly, but Llewellyn isn't that well organized. The sheet is still mentioned in the book that comes with the set, so buyer, beware.
