Comments: The Order of the Golden Dawn was one of a number of secret occult societies active in Europe & America a century ago. Though it is hard now to believe (given the number of mindless cults today), these societies attracted some of the most brilliant men & women of the day. Among these societies the Golden Dawn was unique in that a number of their members produced tarot cards, including A.E. Waite's Rider-Waite deck, Aleister Crowley's Toth Tarot & Paul Foster Case's Builder's of the Adytum tarot (BOTA). And this one.
The minor arkana of The Golden Dawn Tarot makes it a Marseilles-type tarot deck. The five of cups, for example, shows five cups on a white background, with flowers & a hand coming out of the clouds, so as with all Marseilles-type decks, it helps to know your number symbolism. Court cards include King, Queen, Prince & Princess. All four Princesses are topless & have a body build that remind us of warrior maidens.
